While we work in the courts and in legislatures to make the legal landscape better for all transpeople, we realize that it’s just as important to educate the public about gender identity and change public attitudes towards transpeople in order to create sustainable change for the better. Personal stories can captivate and persuade people in ways that legal theories or abstract concepts just can’t. Telling individual people’s stories is key to putting together compelling legal cases and moving public opinion.
