The ACLU submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in this case
Schroer v. Billington
Diane Schroer began taking steps to transition from male to female shortly after retiring as a Colonel after 25 years of distinguished service in the Army. She was offered and accepted a job as a terrorism research analyst at the Library of Congress, but when she told her future supervisor that she was in the process of gender transition, they rescinded the job offer. The ACLU is now representing her in a Title VII sex discrimination lawsuit against the Library of Congress. Learn more about her case here.

- Transsexuality-Based Decisions May Cause Problems Under Federal Sex Discrimination Laws (Employer Law Report)
Great quote: “The Schroer case is a reminder to all of the importance of keeping the focus in employment-related decisions on those things that are clearly job-related.”
Reacting to the ACLU's unanimous victory at the Arkansas Supreme Court striking down an anti-gay foster care ban in Howard v. Child Welfare Agency Review Board, anti-gay activists have been attempting to get an initiative on the ballot that would ban unmarried couples who live together from serving as adoptive or foster parents in the state of Arkansas. The ACLU is part of the coalition opposing this needless measure that would only harm children by reducing the pool of potential homes. Learn more about the Howard case here.
